Hyderabad, 22ND June 2023: CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, Hyderabad, today performed a rare and complex spinal procedure called ‘vertebra-stentoplasty’ on an 80-year-old female patient, Mrs. Chidamma (Name changed). The procedure, successfully performed by Dr. K V Shivanand Reddy, Senior Neurosurgeon, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet, Hyderabad and his team has revolutionized the treatment of spinal fracture by relieving spinal pain and restoring mobility in a short span of time. 

Patient Mrs. Chidamma approached CARE Hospitals Malakpet, with a history of severe low backache. She had previously undergone a spinal fracture operation at another hospital one month ago but did not experience relief from her symptoms. Upon evaluation, it was discovered that the screws placed during the previous surgery were not properly positioned and were encroaching on the spinal canal. Based on the patient's condition, age and comorbidities, the decision was made to remove the screws and perform minimally invasive vertebra-stentoplasty. 

During the procedure, bilateral balloons were used to restore the vertebral body height, which was then augmented with cement. The outcome of the surgery was highly successful, and Mrs. Chidamma is now completely relieved of her pain. She has even regained the ability to sit without any support, showcasing the significant improvement in her quality of life in a very short span of time.
