INTERVIEW WITH DR. PRATHYUSHA FOR DOCTOR TALK

With everybody getting root canal treatment done these days, Dr.Prathyusha, Cosmetics and Aesthetics Dentist at KIMS Hospital (Secunderabad), tells us briefly about the basics of a root canal.
What is a root canal?
It is nothing but treating your tooth cavity and thus maintaining your oral health without having to extract the tooth.
How common is root canal?
Very common. Right from kids to adults, everybody is contracting cavities that require root canal treatment, these days.
Even kids?
Yes, kids as young as three years old are undergoing root canal. When we carry out the root canal treatment in kids, it's called pulp therapy. Kids these days eat a lot of junk. As they are young, their digestive tract is not well developed and that leads to acidic content. The result is bad breath, cavities, and similar teeth related problems.
Does root canal pose disadvantages?
Not at all. It saves your tooth. However, one has to be a little cautious to not eat sticky food or chew gum. Post root canal there is a cap that goes on the tooth, and sticky food could pull that out.
