TGH Onco Life Cancer Center Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Walkathon
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025, TGH OncoLife Cancer Center organized a Walkathon from the hospital premises to Jijamata Chowk. The event was flagged off by Dr. Swati, a cancer survivor, symbolizing courage and hope. The walkathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from hospital staff, cancer survivors, doctors, nursing students, and the community. Participants joined the walkathon, holding placards and posters carrying powerful messages on cancer awareness, highlighting the importance of knowing the symptoms and the life-saving impact of early detection.
The Walkahton's central message was “Early Cancer Screening: The Key to Complete Cure”, inspiring participants and onlookers alike to prioritize timely screening and awareness. The walkathon was spearheaded by Mr Sachin Deshmukh (Managing Director), Dr Santosh Sahu (Unit Head), Dr Gaurav Jaswal (Director – Radiation Oncology), Dr Jyoti Mehta, Dr Vishwas Kaul, Dr Pradyumna Dhakephalkar, and the dedicated OncoLife team. The hospital team performed a street play on breast cancer awareness, which was warmly received by the local audience. Free mammography coupons were also distributed to encourage women to undergo early screening and timely diagnosis.
“Breast cancer, when detected early, is highly curable. The signs are a lump in the breast, nipple discharge, or changes in breast shape and skin texture. The most important step is regular screening and self-examination every month. Delayed diagnosis leads to metastasis, higher treatment intensity, and reduced survival rates. Our walkathon's key message is that early detection leads to a complete cure. So, 'Don’t Fear, Fight Breast Cancer, Conquer with Courage,” said Dr Gaurav Jaswal (Director – Radiation Oncology).
Mr Sachin Deshmukh, Managing Director, TGH OncoLife Cancer Center, underscored, “ This walkathon is a powerful reminder that community participation can save lives. By walking together, we raise not only awareness but also courage and confidence among women to come forward for screening. We offer comprehensive care from early detection to advanced treatment, ensuring that every patient receives the best possible chance at recovery.”
Dr Santosh Sahu, Unit Head, TGH OncoLife Cancer Center, shared, “ We will continue to stand with our patients, not only in treatment but in spreading education and hope.
