Mumbai:  While many consider age as an obstacle to engaging in a strenuous career, there are unique individuals who challenge these beliefs and persist in making significant contributions to their professions even in their later years. One such extraordinary person is Dr. Premanand Shantaram Ramani, also known as Dr. P.S. Ramani, an 85-year-old Neurosurgeon at Lilavati Hospital in Bandra. 

He is the father of neuro-surgery in India. Despite his seniority, Dr. Ramani remains active both in outpatient consultations and performing intricate surgeries that aid patients in regaining their movement. His dedication to a structured lifestyle comprising meditation, Pranayams, regular exercise, Positive thinking and a well-rounded balanced diet enables him to sustain good health, thereby continuing his invaluable work in the medical sector. He has written several books 78 to be precise to orient the public to these problems. Most books have run in three and four editions. The book "Take Care Of Your Back" – so far one-lakh fifty thousand copies have been printed and also has an autobiography published in 8 Indian languages and a photobiography released to mark his 75th Birthday. Dr. Ramani has brought a revolutionary change in the field of neuro-spinal surgery and serves as an inspiration for everyone.

Exercise has not killed anyone at any time. I like to do jogging, hiking, gymming, yoga and meditation. I am a Marathoner and at the age of 80, I completed 100 marathons. Dr. Ramani Goa Marathon was started by me to encourage people to take up fitness and lead a disease-free life. It is essential to keep moving. I also follow a well-balanced diet consisting of mixed seeds including chia seeds for breakfast and salad, egg whites, and lots of fruits for lunch. I avoid bread, alcohol, sugar wheat, fried food, and rice. Mindful eating can help one to go a long way. Take care of your body and respect it.  You will be able to live healthy and happy.”
