Why You Should Drink Water From Copper Containers

Many Indian cuisine restaurants make use of shiny copper plates and glasses to signify the ‘ethnic’ connection.

But do you think that copper vessels are limited to only aesthetics?

Ask your grandparents and they’ll have a lot to say about the benefits of drinking water in copper vessels. Their home remedies may seem archaic but sometimes, old is gold.

While it’s known that Ayurveda vouches for the benefits of drinking water from copper vessels, even scientific studies have proved the same.

The water stored in a copper vessel is called 'tamara jal'. It can balance the three Ayurvedic doshas in the body, namely vata, kapha and pitta.

It’s recommended to store water in copper vessels overnight for better results.

When you wake up early in the morning, drink this water on an empty stomach.  Water stored in a copper container acquires the property of copper.

This means that drinking two to three glasses of water stored in a copper container can replenish the copper reserves in your body. Moreover, a copper container makes the water fit for drinking by killing all the microorganisms present in the water.

Your body can’t synthesise copper. You need to get it from your diet.

If you have plenty of lentils, organ meats, nuts, seeds, potatoes, cereals, peas, dark leafy vegetables and chocolate, then your body will get enough copper.

The Goodness Of Copper

Drinking water from copper containers prevents water-borne Diseases. A study by the University of Southampton revealed that copper can fight against the new E. coli strains. E. coli and S. aureus cause diarrhoea, dysentery and jaundice. Copper also prevents cross-contamination and infection.

Copper-infused water can keep your digestive system healthy. It cleanses and detoxifies the stomach and ensures that harmful products are eliminated from it. Drink water from copper vessels to fight constipation, acidity, gastric problems or indigestion.

This wonder mineral also helps you break down and eliminate fat cells. Switch from sodas and caffeinated beverages to copper-infused water.

Drinking copper infused water will also help you fight vitiligo.

Copper increases the body's capacity to absorb iron, which helps fight anaemia. An anaemic person has low red blood cell count and below-normal haemoglobin levels. This causes fatigue, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath and pale skin. If you’re anaemic, you should have iron-rich foods and copper-infused water.

Copper helps in the proper functioning of the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland plays an important role in regulating organs like the heart, brain, kidneys, liver and skin. Drinking copper-infused water is vital in such cases because people suffering from thyroid disorders have low levels of copper in their bodies.
