Rheumatology Association-Hyderabad Chapter is planning to conduct & Arthritis Awareness Walk on October 22nd, 2017 ,between 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Jalavihar, Necklace Road, Hyderabad. This year's theme for world Arthritis Day of our Association is 'Get Informed. Get Support. Get active'.

Brief Note about Arthritis

 

Arthritis refers to inflammation of the joints. It presents with symptoms like joint pains, swelling, stiffness at joints. This inflammation usually starts very slowly over the years or can also start suddenly and progress rapidly.

 

Arthritis affects predominantly middle aged ladies but can be seen in all age groups and both genders.There is definitely an increase in incidence of arthritis and there is more  than one cause for this. Increase in awareness of arthritis apart, ageing population , obesity, poor dietary habits, lack of exercise, stressful lifestyle, smoking may all be contributory.

 

It affects up to 20% of population, in Telangana state approximately 70 lakh people are suffering with various forms of arthritis ranging from mild to severe forms. Different types of arthritis are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, gout and lupus.

 

  Pain in the joints of the hands or feet with swelling and morning stiffness, may be rheumatoid arthritis

 

  Low backache occurring during periods of rest or sleep rest and early mornings could be Ankylosing spondylitis.

 

  Recurrent swelling of a single joint one at a time especially that of the great toe could be gout.

 

Similar symptoms may happen in children too and should not be neglected

 

In addition to joints if there are symptoms in the heart and kidney and skin other related arthritic disorders should be considered.

 

So people of any age group or sex, if your answer is yes to any one of these you should be consulting a rheumatologist at the earliest
